Introducing the Plumber’s Tools
Welcome to the Plumbing Game Show! In this episode, our expert plumbers reveal three of the most popular plumbing tools in the tool belt. By the end of the show, our audiences will know which tool is the perfect fit for the job! Let’s get started with Contestant #1.

Contestant #1: Drain Snakes
The drain snake is a long metal “snake” that the plumber feeds down into the drain to remove the clog. Drain snakes are flexible enough not to break off in the system but strong enough to get rid of the clog effectively.
- Toilet augers are explicitly engineered to remove clogs from toilets. They even make urinal augers. When something gets lodged in the drain, or a plunger will not do the trick, they are helpful.
- Snakes are another option used to unclog shower or bath drains, remove washing machine clogs, or open a bathroom sink. Top snakes are usually around 25 ft long and can be electric or manual.
- Drain machines come in large and small sizes and are used for deep and heavy-duty clogs. Large appliances can remove roots that have grown into the pipes. Some clogs require a long, sturdy cable.
Contestant #2: Wrenches

- The pipe wrench is the enormous wrench that the plumber carries. Often it takes the plumber juggling two twists at one time to get the job done right.
- There is no better contestant for a leaky faucet than the basin wrench. These are specifically used to fix faucets. It has a clamp on one end perfect for reaching into those hard to get to spaces to tighten nuts and bolts.
- Adjustable wrenches should not be forgotten when discussing the best twists for plumbers to keep in their toolbelts. They are used to adjust hexagonal nuts and come in multiple sizes.
Contestant #3: Safety Equipment
Safety equipment is essential for keeping the plumber safe while performing repairs, installations, and maintenance. For plumbers, having appropriate safety equipment is a must.
- Eyewear is super essential for protecting the vision of the plumber. Eyes are compassionate, and there are a lot of opportunities for chemicals, spare parts, and other objects to fly up and hit the plumber. By wearing protective eyewear, plumbers can make sure they do not accidentally lose their vision to a projectile nut or bolt.
- Gloves are also a must-have for plumbers. Plumbers get down and dirty. Gloves keep germs off of the hands as well as protect the skin.
- For plumbers, shoes are considered safety equipment. Without non-slip shoes, plumbers could easily slip and fall while on the job.
- Sometimes the plumber must wear a hard hat, especially at construction sites.
- Being a plumber is hard work. It can be straining on the knees, back, and joints. Wearing braces, knee pads, and other safety equipment to protect the body can help plumbers prevent muscle strain, aches, and pains.
